Did you know this is the time of the year when The Butterfingers Princess Tart and Hot Cross Buns Comes To #Adelaide?
I recently found out as a Yelp Adelaide Elite Reviewer courtesy of Yelp Adelaide and Butterfingers Adelaide owners Donny and Catherine, I got to participate in a fun-filled night of making #yelpshinybuns aka Hot Cross Buns and learning how to make the now “infamous” Butterfingers Princess Tart!
Butterfingers Adelaide has only been in business for 10 weeks and “what a busy 10 weeks” it has been as shared by the owner Donny!
We were treated to “seductively sexy label” samples of La Boheme Act Two Dry Pinot Rosé 2012 and Fruity Sangria with a wonderful crunchy, cheesy, flavorful snack!
Onto the “real” business of the night which was to learn how to make hot cross buns!
Donny share his Grandmother’s “communal wooden box” where people used to make hot cross buns and “the practice” and “tradition” is still followed by Butterfingers Adelaide to this day!
Donny’s passion about all things food came vividly through with his series of fun food stories as well as food history!
There was whisking, kneading, rolling, and piping to do!
Donny demonstrated then left each group for their “hands on duty!”
Everyone shared in participating which provided everyone with a sense of pride feeling of “I made that” by the end of the night!
I loved learning the “technique” on how to roll the hot cross buns; GREAT hint and tip to know!
I really enjoyed how “butter” was discussed, learning what constitutes a meat pie; Butterfingers Adelaide uses only butter in their recipes and no fillers in any of the beef or chicken meat pies.
The beef pies received a lot of mmmmmmmmmmmmm’s, while I loved the combination of flavors, light flaky pastry of the chicken and coriander meat pie!

As a “treat” for being really good learners (and while the hot cross buns were baking), Donny share “the simplest and easiest” recipe EVER called The Butterfingers Princess Tart!
I knew as soon as he started this was going to be the first thing the next day when I got home I would do!
Thank you to Donny and Catherine for providing us all with The Butterfingers Princess Tart recipe!
Based on my food lifestyle, I needed to slightly adapt the recipe and can’t WAIT to make this again making it virtually sugar free!
I decided to be adventurous and make my own puff pastry!
As you know my PASSION by now with Thermalina (my Thermomix) and all Thermomix recipes, I had this Quick Puff Pastry with Thermomix in my What’s On The List folder.
HOW long did it take me to do?
30 SECONDS!!!!! true; plus the rolling and refrigerator time; it came out GREAT!
Whisked 500ml of thickened cream, 4 eggs, 150 grams of caster sugar with 250 grams of plump sultanas; baked in a 180C oven for about 40 minutes and this is done!
Once you remove it from the oven, place the Butterfingers Princess Tart in the fridge for 30 minutes.
HOW EASY was this?
Princess What? (of Arrrrg-ubly The Best Pirate Party by Faaaaar) was my “taste tester” and glad I didn’t put any of my fingers near her when she devoured her piece with love; as Princess What? is also know to enjoy her food and wine too!
Do you like custard and fruit tarts?
Have you even made a tart at home?
I know you have been holding out to see what the hot cross buns looked like when they came out, eh?
